Photographer Kingsley Parks lives and works on remote Kangaroo Island, a 1-hour boat ride from the southern coast of mainland Australia. This series 'Island Songs', is a way to discover and contemplate island life, and sense the mental and physical adaptations needed when choosing to step on and off the island. This includes learning to be OK with isolation and to be resourceful with limited fresh water, services, and supplies. Such limitations, bounded by geography and distance, also offer positive terrain to personally nurture oneself in the island's simplicity and natural beauty. The title 'Island Songs', is taken from the name of the album by Icelandic composer, Olafur Arnalds. It is recommended to listen to the song Öldurót from this album while viewing these images.
